I’m reminded, as I write this, of a quote I first heard while listening to a Dan Bongino podcast that came from Quintus Ennius, an ancient Roman writer, and poet, that is worth memorizing in the days ahead:
“Give them what they asked for, good and hard.”
Great efforts seeking great outcomes requires great consideration and thorough, extensive, and vigorous debate.
Poor choices lead to poor outcomes, and poor outcomes are always closely followed by deep regret.
Thus did America’s Founders finally cross Cromwell’s Bridge and set it alight upon reaching the other Shore.
It is our failure to hold each other accountable for our words and our deeds that is always at the root of how deceit gains its insidious purchase on its eventual power over the deceived.
